About Us
We are a spin-off from the Spanish National Research Council addressing one of the main issues of composite materials, a high performance material that is currently abandoned in landfills. Our technology enables the recovery of all its components in optimum conditions to produce again a high performance material.
Akelite
A patented thermoplastic liquid resin for the production of composites using conventional manufacturing processes
Markets
Composites are used over a wide range of sectors, from transport, aerospace and military, to wind power, construction and sports and leisure.
Processability
Composites can be manufactured using current thermoset technologies.
Properties
Its mechanical performance is similar to current materials.
Thermoforming
Final product can be reprocessed by applying heat and pressure (thermoconform).
Welding
The material can be heat-welded, a key feature to facilitate the union among different parts.
Circular
Akelite enables the recovery of all the components to be reused in pristine conditions.
Green Deal and SDGs
Akelite creates lightweight and recyclable composites to reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions, contributing to combat climate change and its impacts (SDG 13)
Target applications
Composites are a genuine industry, worth 73 billion euros.

Aeronautical
Composites are well-suited for the design and manufacture of lighter and stronger unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), also known as drones.

Transport
Composites will play key role in the Automotive & Road Transportation sector due to CO2 emission regulations on a global scale.

Sports, Leisure and recreation
The place to try new materials. The Sports & Leisure are dynamic sectors in continuous development.

Industrial equipments
Industrial equipment manufacturers are starting to look into composites for their production yield through lightness, rigidity, high natural frequencies of corrosion resistance.

Renewable Energy
Composites are present in nearly all the more environmentally friendly way of producing and storing energy thanks to their amazing "properties to weight" ratio and their corrosion resistance.

Pipe & Tanks
Applications in the these fields make use of the weatherability (corrosion resistance) and « stiffness with weight reduction » properties of long-fibre-reinforced composites.
Projects
Explore some of the key projects we are working on and their goals.
- ECORES WIND (101148066): Our initiative stands for the increase of circularity, particularly trough the reuse and recycling of components of complex products such as of wind turbines by developing innovative circular resins and adhesives and facilitating their use leveraged by modular design of composites parts.
- CICLO (PLEC2024-011215): This collaborative project among industry and academia aims develop new technological solutions to boost the circular economy in the field of renewable energies, specifically in the recycling and recovery of wind blades and other composite components used in the construction of wind turbines. The project also considers the development of alternative materials that are more easily recyclable.
- SUCCESS BLADE (TED2021-130201B) - AKELITE (TED2021-130201B-C31): We are developing 100% circular and sustainable wind turbine blades by using a recyclable, low-viscosity liquid thermoplastic resin, called AKELITE, in collaboration with CIEMAT and University of Girona.
- SUCOMP (PDC2021-120853-I00): This project aims to create a spin-off based on the commercialization of Akelite, that can be used to create 100% circular composites.
Our Team
We are 2 researchers from the Spanish National Research Council, CSIC, with a combined experience of over 40 years in the field of composites and among the top 20 polymer researchers in Spain.
